Professor Perminder Sachdev
Professor Perminder Sachdev’s research interests are in the areas of Vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Dementia of Lewy Body type and other dementias, Neuropsychiatric aspects of dementia, including Depression; Treatment of resistant psychiatric disorders with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Neurosurgery; Drug-induced movement disorders (akathisia, tardive dyskinesia, NMS); Neuroimaging; Tourette’s syndrome, Adult ADHD.
Professor Sachdev was awarded the Senior Research prize of the RANZCP in 1995 for most outstanding psychiatric research by an Aust or NZ psychiatrist in the preceding 2 years, and the Novartis oration of the ASPR in 2004. He currently supervises 5 doctoral students, and co-supervises 5 doctoral students. Professor Sachdev is currently the CI-A on a NH&MRC Program Grant (Sachdev/Brodaty/Andrews) (2005-2009) for $4.6 million for the investigation of neurocognitive disorders in the elderly, and CI-A on a Ageing Well Ageing productively program Grant ($2 million over 5 years) for the Older Australian twins Study.
He is Immediate past-president of the International Neuropsychiatry Association and Chair of the Neuropsychiatry Section of the RANZCP. Professor Sachdev is a member of the Primary Dementia Collaborative Research Centre’s Core Management Committee and a member of the Special Groups Node.
