Professor Lynn Chenoweth

Lynn Chenoweth is the Professor of Aged & Extended Care Nursing, University of Technology Sydney, and the Director of the Health & Ageing Research Unit, South Eastern Sydney-Illawarra Area Health Service.

Lynn has contributed significantly to the development of Australian dementia and aged care nursing across the health continuum over the past 36 years through direct patient care, care service management, education and research. She has been a key contributor to reforming dementia & aged care policy and nurse education at local, state and national levels. Her PhD evaluated the efficacy of the Australian Nursing Home Outcome Standards with regard to the quality of care and quality of life for aged care residents and the quality of work experiences for residential aged care staff. This work has influenced the direction of the current Accreditation Standards for Residential Aged Care Services.

Lynn has managed sixteen externally funded, multidisciplinary research projects valued at over $2 million. Through the cooperation of over 40 industry research partners in all health care settings these projects have facilitated innovative care models, nursing improvements and better health outcomes for older people and their families in dementia, chronic disease, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease. The specific health experiences and nursing needs of persons from non-English backgrounds is a motif of many of these projects. She is currently a CI on the national Dementia Outcomes Measurement project and leader of the key Dementia CRC Nursing Node in NSW. Three of her PhD and 3 Masters students have graduated and she is currently supervising five PhD, three DN and two Masters students in aged and dementia care nursing.

As an internationally recognized leader in dementia and aged care nursing, she is frequently invited to present keynote papers at national and international conferences and regularly provides consultancies for the aged care industry and the law courts as an expert witness.
