Associate Professor Marc Budge

Associate Professor Marc Budge is the Head of the Geriatric Medicine Unit, ANU Medical School, Medical Director, Aged Care and Rehabilitation Services, ACT Health, President of Alzheimer’s Australia and Director of the Dementia Collaborative Research Centre number 2 (Prevention, Early Intervention and Risk Reduction).

Formerly a clinician and MRC-funded Senior Research Fellow in the multi-disciplinary Oxford Project To Investigate Memory and Ageing (OPTIMA) at the Radcliffe Infirmary (1996-2003, Oxford, UK), his role as chief investigator/ medical consultant to the NIH-funded Maine-Syracuse (USA) longitudinal study of cognition and ageing continues.

His primary research interests are the prevention, non-invasive monitoring and management of cognitive and cardio-vascular decline with ageing and disease with a particular interest in multi-modality brain and vascular imaging. Since arriving back in Australia in 2003, he has been involved in developing community-based prevention and monitoring programmes at the interface of IT, aged care and chronic disease which, in conjunction with smart house and environmental design, will allow older adults to “age-in-place”.
