About Us

Our aims are to:

  • further the prevention and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias,
  • enhance awareness of dementia in the community and amongst health professionals,
  • improve assessment and care for people with dementia and their families,
  • optimise assistance for carers,
  • improve nursing home care and
  • enhance palliative care for people with dementia
The three DCRCs each have multiple collaborators comprising many of the top researchers in Australia, Community Groups and Service Providers. The DCRCs are collaborating with the Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Services, Dementia Training and Study Centres and other components of the National Dementia Initiative.

The Centres’ aim is to enhance the quality of assessment in care by translating research into practice. The projects they will be undertaking are ambitious and the spectrum of research broad, ranging from pre-clinical diagnosis to general practitioner assessment and management to best use of neuro-imaging to nursing care and finally to palliative care.

An important component of the DCRCs is capacity building, this means enhancing the ability of Australian clinicians and researchers to undertake applied dementia research, encouraging new researchers, providing scholarships and post-doctoral fellowships and providing a platform for grant applications through NHMRC and other funding bodies.

We rely on funding in order to perform our research. You can read about how to donate to our Centres here.
